The Trading Standards team has an essential role in maintaining and developing Sunderland as a well-regulated, compliant and safe place to live, work, visit and do business, and we are now recruiting to a Senior Consumer Protection Officer post within the team.
Successful applicants will have experience of criminal law enforcement in a public sector organisation including conducting investigations and producing prosecution reports with an aptitude to engage with businesses to promote responsible attitudes to the sale of tobacco and alcohol.
Once in position a broad range of Trading Standards investigations will be undertaken. The role will include a significant ongoing project relating to age restricted products and other illegal sales of alcohol and tobacco products. This project will include the development and implementation of a responsible retailer scheme and proactive work with businesses to promote responsible attitudes to age related sales. Training and work with partner agencies in the night time economy will also be an integral part of the role. A programme of surveillance and enforcement activities will also be undertaken across the City.
Excellent communication skills together with the ability to listen, negotiate, influence and work independently to complete the task are required.
This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
