The Trading Standards team has an essential role in maintaining and developing Sunderland as a well-regulated, compliant and safe place to live, work, visit and do business, and we are now recruiting to a Senior Trading Standards Officer post within the team.

The successful applicant will have DTS or DCATS qualification preferably with the weights and measures module. With experience of conducting investigations and producing prosecution reports with an aptitude to forge relationships with businesses to promote responsible attitudes to the sale of tobacco and alcohol.

Once in position a broad range of Trading Standards investigations will be undertaken including acting as a responsible authority under the Licensing Act. The role will act as the service lead on the enforcement of age restricted products and will plan and deliver a range of interventions including surveillance and enforcement activities as well as the development of a responsible retailer scheme. A significant aspect will involve proactive work with businesses to promote responsible attitudes to age related sales and the development and delivery of training programmes with partner agencies in the night time economy to safeguard vulnerable patrons.

Excellent communication skills together with the ability to listen, negotiate, influence and work independently to complete the task are required.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
