The Countryside and Green Spaces Team operates throughout Northumberland and is responsible for maintaining public rights of way and a number of sites including four Country Parks. The practical management of rights of way and the Country Parks is largely carried out by three two-person Field Teams based at Druridge Bay, Plessey Woods and Tyne Riverside Country Parks.
The successful apprentice is to work with one of the Field Teams carrying out countryside management work. This includes:
Installing and maintaining structures such as signposts, gates, stiles, bridges, fences, dry stone walls etc
Carrying out vegetation control using chainsaws, strimmers, hedge trimmers etc and through the application of herbicides
Installing and maintaining path drainage using hand tools
