An opportunity has arisen within the Low Incidence Needs Team (LINT), Gateshead Council, for a Specialist Teacher - Multi-Sensory Impairment.
LINT works across the 0 - 25 age range within both mainstream and special school settings. Applicants
will be expected to work flexibly where required across Gateshead.
We are looking to appoint a Qualified Teacher (QTS) to join the Special Educational Needs Improvement Team (SENIT) and provide peripatetic/outreach support to children and young people aged 0 -25 years with a multi-sensory impairment.
You must be a qualified and experienced teacher and have relevant and substantial classroom experience and ideally already hold the mandatory qualification for multi-sensory impairment (MSI). The focus of the role will be on teaching children with MSI in a school based and peripatetic/outreach role.
An in-depth knowledge of the requirements for Safeguarding & Child Protection, strategies and technologies used to remove barriers to learning for babies, children and young people with multi-sensory impairment is essential as is knowledge of current SEND policy and practice especially as it affects teaching and learning within provision for the sensory impaired. You should have successful experience of teaching in an educational setting, experience of working with families and different settings, and experience of multi-agency working.
Candidates who do not hold the mandatory qualification will be considered but must be willing to undertake training.
You should have experience of delivering staff development and whole school training and be willing to training and gain qualifications in communication systems i.e BSl, Braille, on body signing.
