An opportunity has arisen to appoint Driver Support Workers at Marquisway Resource Centre, Enterprises and Winlaton Community Base. Each service provides day time support to adults with a learning disabilities and/or autism.
You will be required to safely transport service users to and
from the services and access community opportunities by minibus, people carrier or own vehicle; taking into consideration moving and handling and other support needs. You will also be required to maintain vehicle care as outlined in the Council's Driver Handbook.

You will assist more senior staff under direction to support service users with their personal care and nutritional needs, engagement in activities within a building base and in the community, which will include therapeutic, social, educational and employment related opportunities. Working flexible hours when required, which may involve early mornings, evenings and weekends, you will also be expected to work across Gateshead Adult Provider Services.
You will engage and interact positively with other professionals, carers and service users, to enable positive outcomes to person centred support plans.
You will be required to demonstrate effective communication, partnership working and have an empathetic approach to ensure person-centred support which meets the individual's support needs and aspirations.
It is essential that you have a full UK driving licence with no penalty points and are prepared to pass the local authority driver assessment. It is desirable that you possess a NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification or be prepared to undertake the necessary training to attain The Care Certificate.
You must also have experience and knowledge of supporting people who have a disability and relevant legislation.
It would be desirable to have category D1 on your driving licence.
