We’re looking to recruit a service manager to lead the construction services department which is part of the wider planned, investment and development service.

As service manager you will work closely with the head of planned, investment and development to ensure the effective and efficient management and co-ordination of the department.

In this role you will be accountable for, although not limited to:

• New build Housing
• Renovation and new build of Public Buildings
• Housing Capital investment works such as Maintaining decency and major voids

Day to day you will be involved in managing and co-ordinating the operational delivery and compliance of the construction department works in accordance with relevant regulations and contract specifications, health & safety legislation, programmes and KPI’s.

In addition, you will be responsible for workforce planning and monitoring productivity to ensure optimum utilisation of all resources. This includes responsibility for the financial performance of your department to ensure profitability is maintained.

You’ll also get an opportunity to make your mark by reviewing and revising processes and procedures to improve the effectiveness, scope and quality of the service and developing new business opportunities.

About you…

It’s important that you are comfortable taking the lead and have exceptional motivational skills to coach, develop and empower your team to reach their full potential.

You’ll be qualified to HND or equivalent qualification in a construction/ME related discipline or significant demonstratable experience and expertise in operational delivery of construction works, SMSTS Site Safety Certificate or equivalent.

Although some of your work will be office based you will need to get out and about throughout the borough of Gateshead too, therefore it is important that you have access to mobility transport or hold a full driving licence. If you do hold a full driving licence would be beneficial although not essential that you have access to your own vehicle.

In addition, you’ll need to be an expert communicator, with the confidence to manage difficult conversations when agreements are not being met, experience in the construction industry at an enhanced level and in particular new build and renovation projects, financial planning and control.

It goes without saying that it is essential that you have up to date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and CDM regulations and the ability to transfer these into working practice of your department, ensuring that all work is being carried out in a safe and compliant way, accurate records are maintained, and contractors are delivering against key business objectives.
