The Benefit Service is responsible for the calculation and award of Housing and Council Tax Support claims from the residents of the City of Sunderland, and currently has a caseload of approximately 36,000 claims.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint at Benefit Administrator; the successful candidate will be responsible to a Team Manager and will part of a busy processing team, carrying out various tasks relating to the assessment and payment of Benefit claims

You will be required to calculate Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, maintain data held on our IT systems, make decisions on overpayments and correspond with claimants, landlords and other organisations in respect of Benefit claims.

Some knowledge of welfare benefits would be advantageous, and full training on Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support will be given. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work as part of a team and have the ability to work to deadlines.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
