The Trust is seeking to appoint a ASD/SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our Student Support Team at North Durham Academy. This is an exciting time to join our trust, in a newly established role.

ASD/SEMH Teaching Assistant

Grade 3 - £17,599 - £19,430 pa (which reflects actual salary)
37 Hours per week Term Time plus 5 additional days

The successful applicant will provide support to the Harbour Manager towards the academic and social education of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or Social and Emotional Mental Health needs. You will be responsible for a caseload of students inside and outside the classroom environment delivering intervention programmes to individuals and small groups.

We require a high quality Teaching Assistant who has an interest in children with ASD/SEMH. You should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the complex issues and co-morbidities associated with ASD such as ADHD, Attachment Disorder etc. Applicants should have a ‘no excuses’ attitude to achievement.

You should be compassionate and be able to deploy a wide range of interpersonal skills, together with strong behaviour management. It is essential you are able to work using your own initiative, under pressure to achieve quality work. You will be required to work flexibly according to the needs of the Academy.
