Governors seek to appoint an exceptional Leader, with the vision, ability and confidence to build upon the outstanding legacy of our current Headteacher, enabling students to achieve the highest levels of academic and personal achievement.

We do not believe that Sedgefield Community College is an ‘ordinary’ school, rather we are confident that we present our students with an outstanding experience that is far from the norm. An experience that has led the school to consistently feature amongst the highest performing of all secondary schools across North East and Cumbria whilst also being judged by OFSTED (2017) as ‘outstanding’. However, at Sedgefield, success is not and will not be measured by academic outcomes alone. Rather, it will always be measured by the extent to which students are empowered to move onto the next stage of their lives as happy, confident and successful young adults. Indeed, to become Headteacher at Sedgefield Community College is to acknowledge and accept that the happiness and wellbeing of our students, in the broadest sense, is at the heart of what we do each day. It is to understand that a prerequisite to employment is an unyielding determination to remove barriers and personalise support for each and every child regardless of the challenges.

The successful candidate will benefit from working in a welcoming, caring school which exudes positivity, leading an outstanding team of committed, supportive and dedicated staff and governors who are proud to be part of the school community. From this strong foundation, the person appointed will be expected to not only demonstrate an ability to professionally challenge and support, but also to continue to nourish a positive organisational culture founded upon common values, professional respect and the belief that everyday should be enjoyed.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Headteachers, with a proven track record, to further develop their career and impact positively upon the development of our school. Whilst we also welcome applications from talented and aspirational Deputy Headteachers who can demonstrate they are ready and able to take on the responsibilities and demands of headship successfully.

Applicants should complete an application form and indicate through a letter (no more than two sides of A4) how their experience to date has prepared them for this role and how they would ensure future success.

As a disability confident employer, we are committed to employing disabled people and people with health conditions, making reasonable adjustments to support disabled applicants when required. Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met.
