Do you have a passion for social work? Are you an experienced and inspiring leader? Are you a strategic thinker motivated to drive continuous improvement? Are you committed to providing excellent services to vulnerable children and families?

If this is you – then Newcastle City Council wants you!

This is an exciting time to join us. With significant financial support from our Council we are transforming our approach to children’s social care by embedding a new relational family valued model of social work based on systemic practice across our service and the city. Our commitment to transforming how we work is recognised by our selection to the DFE’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children programme (read more here https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/citylife-news/education/new-project-newcastle-strengthen-families-and-keep-children-out-care).

We are looking for two experienced and dynamic Children’s Social Care managers to lead our Long Term Social Work Division through our transformation work and beyond. With significant experience in front line child protection, you must be confident at cultivating services where excellent practice can thrive, developing social workers who have the confidence and skills to work with families to create lasting change. An effective decision maker you must have a strong focus on performance, quality assurance and continuous improvement to ensure children and young people are receiving the right support at the right time.

Both posts will sit within our Long Term Social Work Division alongside an existing Service Manager. The first post will manage teams working longer term interventions with families including child in need, child protection, and court proceedings. The second post will manage teams working with children in long term care including our 16+ and Leaving Care team. Both roles will also have management responsibility for our edge of care and specialist services. As part of our Children’s Social Care senior management team both posts will help us to continue to shape and deliver our wider transformation programme.

Committed to high practice standards you will have the vision and experience to deliver social work services that place the needs of children and young people at the heart of everything and works effectively with families.

In return we will support you to succeed.

As a service we are committed to our staff receiving the opportunities they need to develop and flourish at all stages of their career. At Newcastle “social workers feel well supported” and practice improvement is delivered “creatively and innovatively” (Ofsted Focus Visit Outcome Letter 2019). We also offer a comprehensive range of training and professional opportunities that evolves and develops to the meet the needs of our workforce.

We will encourage you to be creative and progress your career making social work at Newcastle a profession that is yours to own. In addition, you will receive:
• A dedicated 5-day induction
• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
• A range of flexible working options
• A generous Flexi Scheme
• Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
• Access to home electronics and car leasing schemes
