We’re looking for a new Head of Culture, Sport and Tourism to drive us forward.
Someone who has vision, energy, creativity, resilience and an absolute focus on delivering high performing services and achieving the best possible outcomes for residents and communities.
You will be responsible for leading the development and provision of the Council’s cultural, leisure and visitor service offer to residents and visitors to County Durham. This will include a broad range of high-quality leisure facilities (indoor and outdoor), theatres, libraries, attractions, festivals and events, and play and sports development services that ensure local people can access leisure and lifestyle opportunities which are based on their needs and expectations and contribute to healthy and active living.
You will also be responsible for driving the development and marketing of the county’s tourism offer so that we maximise and realise the economic potential of our visitor economy. In recent years, we have made great strides in culture-led regeneration with major events such as Brass, international cricket and Lumiere encouraging more and more people to visit the county and stay longer. This has been achieved by fostering productive relationships with national and regional bodies and local tourism businesses.
As well as leading a large multi-service team, strategic partnership working will also be a key element of the role.
