The Governors of Laurel Avenue Community Primary School are looking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic teaching assistant who is highly motivated towards supporting a pupil with behavioural difficulties, to join our team with effect from January 2020.
The role is to support one Key Stage One pupil across the day, following an individual timetable and support plan that is in place.
You will support the pupil in all aspects of learning, helping them to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually for example:
•Clarifying and explaining instructions
•Following and planning for an individual sensory diet
•Planning for and implementing interventions linked to recommendations from speech and language therapist and occupational therapist
•Ensuring the pupil is able to use equipment and materials provided
•Motivating and encouraging the pupil as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils’ needs
•Using praise, positive feedback and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task
•Liaising with class teacher, SENCO and other professionals about the support plan, contributing to the planning and delivery as appropriate
•Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
•Helping to make appropriate resources to support the pupil
•When necessary, applying positive handling techniques (Team Teach – training can be provided)

- interpersonal skills
- communication [verbal and written]
- organisation
