The Service
The Building Control Service oversees building developments across the County from domestic extensions to large commercial buildings. Reporting to the Building Control & Land Charges Manager the postholder will support the Building Control Surveyors with the full range of administrative tasks including dealing with applications, taking payments, liaising with clients, keeping records, collating information for reports.

The Team will also advise on dangerous buildings and provides a street naming and numbering service for developers.
The Team is part of the Business Compliance & Public Safety Unit in the Public Protection Service.

The role
We are seeking a Technical Support Officer to provide full administrative support to the professional staff in the Building Control team in the fulfilment of the Council’s statutory duty relating to the application and enforcement of the Building Regulations 2010; to validate applications and deposited fees and carry out consultations and preliminary technical checks for each new submission; to manage the various expert software systems and databases used by the team; to be the first point of contact for members of the public and others generally and particularly when Building Control Officers are not available and to process and approve street naming and numbering applications, including validating fees and undertaking consultations and liaison with internal and external bodies. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

It is expected that the post will be based with the Building Control Surveyors at the Fire & Rescue Headquarters, West Hartford, Cramlington.
