Further Information
John Spence is a popular and successful school, serving students from the North Shields area of North Tyneside.

We have an exciting opportunity for a creative, caring and hardworking professional to join our highly effective team of Learning Mentors. The successful candidate will provide a complementary service to existing teachers and pastoral staff in the school: addressing the needs of children who require help to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside the school in order to achieve their full potential. NVQ Level 4 qualification or equivalent is essential however, degree level qualification is desirable.

The challenges of mental health represent a significant barrier to many young people and the Learning Mentors role devotes the majority of time to those needing extra support to realise their potential. This is an exciting time to be joining the School as we have commissioned a bespoke mentor space to be built within the grounds.

We take pride in the school’s academic achievement, whilst being firmly committed to Inclusion and the Every Child Matters agenda. Therefore, if you are passionate about education and enjoy a challenge, this is the job for you. Potential candidates are welcome to contact Helen Blair, Assistant Headteacher for an informal discussion.

This post is fixed term for 1 year, 37 hours per week, term time only over 195 days.

John Spence Community High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As such an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant checks deemed appropriate.

An application form and accompanying letter should be completed and returned no later than 24th January 2020 at 10am to the School Business Manager Melissa.tunney@ntlp.org.uk. Further details of the school and the post can be obtained from the school website, www.johnspence.org.uk as can a copy of the application form.
