Norham High School is an improving, 11 – 16, mainstream secondary school serving part of the south east locality of North Shields with an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) for Language and Communication needs. The school has a new, dynamic leadership team who are making rapid and exciting changes across the school. Ofsted recognise that “new senior leaders have brought the school a renewed sense of purpose. Staff morale is strong and improving. This has been helped by leaders’ clarity and determination to succeed” (December, 2019). Norham recognises that its staff are its greatest asset and this is evident through our extensive CPD programme and through staff benefits and rewards.

Norham High School is fully pupil-centred and enables pupils to have a real voice in our current and future improvements through our pupil council and other pupil leadership opportunities. As a result, our pupils are polite, behaviour is calm and staff and pupil relationships are positive (Ofsted, December 2019).

You will join an enthusiastic, multi-disciplinary team who provide high quality and effective support for pupils with a range of additional educational needs in a department with strong leadership (Ofsted, December 2019). Our support offer ranges from pupils with language and communication difficulties, including pupils on the autistic spectrum, to mainstream in-class support for pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, learning difficulties or physical difficulties. You will be enthusiastic and take an innovative approach to the development of this successful educational provision. You will have a keen interest in working with pupils with additional needs to achieve positive outcomes in this inclusive environment. Knowledge and understanding of behaviour management and how to use scaffolding and visual strategies in class to support pupils is essential.

Applications for this permanent post are invited from people who are keen to join an organisation that is recognised for the high quality care and support it provides for its pupils and staff, its committed staff team and the drive to raise standards at all levels. There are a number of posts available.
