Durham County Council is establishing a new In-House Enforcement Agent Service and are seeking to recruit 5 x Enforcement Agents.

Travel is an essential requirement of the post therefore candidates must hold a current driving licence. Candidates will be required to adopt a flexible approach to working hours and be available/contactable outside of standard working hours.

The service will be responsible for the collection and enforcement of Council Tax, Business Rates, parking fines & fixed penalty notices, commercial rents, sundry debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments.

The successful candidate will join Finance and Transactional Services as part of the Payments, Income & Support Team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new team and be here at the inception of a new service.

You will be part of a responsive, efficient and effective Enforcement Agent Service and will visit debtors’ premises with a view to collect payment for unpaid debts. Enforcement Agent Assistants will provide administrative support and assist the Enforcement Agents in the day to day operation of the Enforcement Agent Service.

You must have experience of debt recovery, dealing with customers in challenging situations and be experienced in the interpretation and application of the relevant legislation.

You must have detailed knowledge of enforcement legislation and whilst it is not essential to be a certificated Enforcement Agent, it would be desirable.

You will require excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to deliver a customer focused service that is subject to frequent change.

Required qualifications:
Enforcement Agent Certificate or,
Level 3 Equivalent and undertaking to complete Enforcement Agent Qualification.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held 24th and 25th February 2020.
