The role   We are looking to appoint an Overpayments Officer to work as part of the Overpayments Team based in Ashington. The successful applicant will assist the Overpayments Team Leader to maximise the collection of recoverable Housing Benefit overpayments in line with legislation, Council policy and best practice.  You will deal with all customer contact relating to overpayments by telephone, e-mail, post or third party enquiries, offer advice on Housing Benefit and monitor repayment arrangements and take appropriate action where required to pursue the most effective form of recovery action. You will utilise all options to trace debtors and ascertain information that will assist in resolving issues and clearing debts. You must be energetic, efficient and capable of working on your own initiative as well as forming an integral part of a hard working team. You should have good communication and numeracy skills as well as a good level of general knowledge and IT literacy. You must be able to work with accuracy and use your own initiative. You will also have an in depth knowledge of Housing Benefit Regulations and associated Statutory Instruments and Circulars.  Experience of debt recovery work is desirable. Previous experience of Northgate iWorld and Info@Work systems will be an advantage.
