Further Information
20 hours per week (flexible) | Home Based (required to attend meetings in and around Yarm)

Yarm is a town that is really going places. Home to over 8,000 people, we are proud of our history and heritage but also excited about our plans for the future. Yarm Town Council is equally ambitious, and Councillors are keen to work with local residents to ensure that the town remains a vibrant, much loved jewel in the Tees Valley crown.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to become our new Town Clerk, who will also be the Proper Officer and RFO. We would love to hear from candidates who can manage, adhere to and improve processes to protect and enhance the reputation of the Council amongst residents, local businesses and key stakeholders.

Duties for this part time and largely home based role include attendance at Council and Committee meetings (which usually take place on an evening on the second Tuesday of each month), agenda preparation, minute taking, implementation of decisions/actions and maintenance of financial records (including the preparation of accounts, the annual budget and records for audit purposes). The Town Clerk will also carry out a range of administrative functions on behalf of the Council, for example, processing general enquiries and correspondence, managing our website and social media presence and making sure that statutory and regulatory obligations are met, including those under data protection and freedom of information legislation.

Our ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with a professional ‘can do’ attitude and confident to work under their own initiative. You will be a qualified Clerk, or prepared to study to obtain the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA), and have tenacity, empathy and a drive for success. In return, we offer a competitive salary, membership into the Public Services Pension Scheme (PSPS) and a flexible, varied and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop and thrive.

To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to Alan Gallafant (Chairman of the Council) on alan.gallafant@yarmtc.org
