Further Information
The Gateshead Housing Company is the largest social housing provider in Gateshead, responsible for the day-to-day management of nearly 20,000 homes. We deliver a wide range of services on behalf of Gateshead Council and currently employ over 800 people.
We are committed to providing customers with the highest quality of service. We believe the key to this is recruiting enthusiastic, talented people with the right skills, knowledge, attitude and behaviour.
An opportunity has arisen in the Housing Services team for the role of Support Living Scheme Caretaker.
As part of the supported living scheme caretaking service, you will manage facilities in small blocks of flats, for tenants with mild/moderate learning disabilities. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for these tenants.
The service is delivered seven days a week and works on a variable shift pattern, which includes weekend work and overnight sleep-in cover Monday to Sundays. You will be required to work flexibly on a rota. Enhancements will be paid for working sleep-ins, weekends and public holidays.
In this role, you will provide overnight sleep-in cover as required by the service, and maintain the safety and security of the building. You’ll also monitor CCTV and patrol the blocks at regular intervals.
Day-to-day, you will supervise tenant and visitor access to and from the building. This will include liaising with tenants, visitors, contractors and care providers. You’ll act as a point of contact for tenants, dealing with any queries that they may have.
The role will also include general cleaning duties in the office and communal areas, and you’ll assist with refuse collection.
About you:
It’s important you can work alone, with minimal supervision, and use your own initiative within a policy and procedural framework. You must be able to problem solve, and demonstrate a basic understanding of safeguarding.
You will have at least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above (including Maths and English), or relevant demonstrable experience.
Great customer service skills are essential to this role, as are effective and adaptable communication skills.
As you will need to maintain accurate information recording systems, it’s vital you have experience of maintaining logs and records.
Experience of working with computer software packages, eg. Microsoft Word/Excel, CCTV equipment and building security monitoring is beneficial, although not essential.
You’ll mostly be based at one supported living scheme, but you may need to work from different locations to cover colleague training, annual leave etc.
We will provide full training and support in all aspects of the job.
