(Children and Families Social Care, South Tyneside)
£39,782 pa (Pay Award Pending)

Come and join a “good” and “outstanding” Children’s and Families Service.

“Workforce development is a significant strength, and there is a very strong commitment to continuing professional development. South Tyneside appropriately prioritises recruitment and retention of high-quality professionals.” (OFSTED 2017).

Our Children and Families Service in South Tyneside are entering an exciting period in the development of the service we offer our most vulnerable families.

To do this we need the best professionals, who are motivated and determined to drive an already successful and effective service further. As a result of South Tyneside’s drive to improve we are increasing capacity and develop our staff team, that is already “stable, well supported and provides the right conditions for social work to flourish”.

Therefore, in order to take our ambitions further, we have an opportunity for a qualified social work practitioner to expand our service further. Senior leaders have ensured that staff development and support have been effectively prioritised, and staff morale is good. The workforce is stable, motivated and child focused.

As an Assistant Team Manager you will deputise for the Team Managers in ensuring operational effectiveness of the teams, overseeing workloads and supporting social workers in their case work and development in line with the Councils expected standards of practice.

You will be responsible for the formal supervision of Family Workers, supporting their development and the development of the Family Worker role on the whole, including allocating work.

This role enables experienced practitioners who are keen to progress to a team management position the opportunity to develop the necessary management competence. The service will ensure opportunities are available to support this in terms of development and induction.

As an experienced social Worker, the Assistant Team Manager possesses a strong understanding and knowledge of the current legislation, case working and recommendations that are part of the social worker’s role, enabling the Assistant Team Manager to play a supervisory role within the team, passing on knowledge and advising on complex procedural matters. This will include confidence and competence in decision making, chairing meetings, and a knowledge and breadth of experience in a range of assessments and interventions.

South Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant pre-employment checks.
