This excellent opportunity of a fixed term post has become available within Redcar and Cleveland Virtual School.

As the Deputy Head of the Virtual School you will have the opportunity to work with the Virtual School Head to lead, support and challenge internal and external schools and partners to secure the best possible educational outcomes for children and young people in the care of the local authority.

The post holder will have the ability to support the Virtual School Head develop and challenge local authority policies and practices in order to promote and support the best possible outcomes for children in care.

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated effective leadership in a school and or in a local authority senior role and has a passion for promoting the educational attainment of children in care and care leavers and celebrating their successes.

The successful post holder will have experience of supporting vulnerable children in educational settings and those out of education and will be able to demonstrate the impact of their leadership on improved educational outcomes for children.

The post holder will have an understanding of the social care and educational legislation pertinent to children in care and will use their initiative and imagination to unblock significant barriers to the educational success of these children and young people. The successful candidate will line manage the pupil inclusion officers for the Virtual School and take a lead role in developing the inclusion strategy for young people in our care.

Joining the teams in Children’s Services supporting schools and academies across Redcar and Cleveland you will work within the Virtual School and work closely with both the education service teams and social care teams.

You will be passionate about improving life chances for all young people and committed to supporting the wider priorities of Children’s Services.

The authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children/young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an enhanced disclosure & barring service check (DBS) will be sought for this post.
