Further Information
Northumberland County Council are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic leader to a newly created post within the Inclusive Education Service (IES). As well as providing support to children and families with special educational needs and disabilities (0-19) across Northumberland, the core purpose of IES is to support and enable schools to identify special educational and additional needs, and to set up and orchestrate effective provision for the learners in their school communities in order to improve outcomes for learners as they move through school and prepare for adult life.
Following recent changes to the Inclusive Education Service structure, we are seeking to appoint a Manager of the Low Incidence Needs teams; this includes Sensory Support, Portage, and English as an Additional Language (EAL). The staff resource includes a number of Lead Practitioners, specialist teachers of children with hearing, vision and multisensory impairments, Portage workers, specialist teachers and teaching assistants of children with EAL, and administrative staff. The services are highly regarded within the school community, and by parents/carers.
The role involves day to day operational management of the teams in the Inclusive Education Service. You will be part of a management team led by the Head of Inclusive Education Services that includes the managers of the High Incidence Needs Teams, Psychological Services and SEN Monitoring and Assessment Teams. The work of the Inclusive Education Service overall is led by the needs of Northumberland residents and schools, and is central to the overall SEN strategy and vision of the council. There are close links with the School Improvement Service, with SEN high on the agenda of the Education and Skills Directorate. We have high ambition for our SEN learners, and also for the way in which we deliver our Services.
Our teams are vibrant, strong and deeply committed to Northumberland residents and to improving outcomes through high quality support delivered across a wide range of needs and through different stages of the statutory SEN processes. For the Low Incidence Need teams, an element of the delivery is to children aged 0-4 years and their families, both within their home and in early years settings.
You will be able to demonstrate that you are self-motivated, well organised and an innovative and committed professional, with a good understanding of leadership and management. You will be able to work with autonomy, but also very well within a team.
At Northumberland County Council, we value having a workforce as diverse as the region we serve; our county offers outstanding beauty and well established rural and urban communities. Northumberland County Council is firmly committed to the support of agile and flexible working patterns, and we welcome, develop and promote people from all sections of the community.
