As an Operational Development – Refuse and Recycling Apprentice, you will develop skills, knowledge and experience working in Refuse and Recycling.

The Operational Development Unit is a small team dealing with all aspects of the rubbish and recycling service. You will support the team in speaking to residents and customers, creating and implementing the collection rounds for each crew, project work and following up on requests and any operational issues. The team cover garden waste, rubbish and recycling collection, commercial waste, bulky waste collections and clinical waste.

The apprenticeship will be based at the council’s Hackworth Road Depot, Peterlee but you may be required to work at any council workplace within County Durham.

You will be studying towards the Business Administrator Level 3 via the council’s training provider, Adult Learning and Skills Service (ALSS).

You must either have or expect to achieve 4 GCSE’s at Grades A-C/9-4 or hold an equivalent and relevant qualification, together with good communication & IT skills and an ability to work as part of a team.
