The Council:
Northumberland County Council operates a huge range of services across one of the largest counties in the UK. Local Government’s ongoing challenges and the diversity of our residents means we have to work smarter. That’s why we want bold, creative and agile thinkers who can help us move forward and innovate.

The role:
Northumberland County Council is looking to appoint a temporary Building Conservation Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to protect and promote Northumberland’s unique built heritage. Working within the Historic Environment Team, you will work with the team of Conservation Officers to deliver a full building conservation service across Northumberland. You will liaise with Development Managers and other council departments to provide conservation and design advice to ensure the protection, maintenance and enhancement of the historic built environment.

You will have a degree or postgraduate qualification in Historic Building Conservation, Urban Design, Planning or Architecture with knowledge of historic building design and construction. You should have knowledge, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of, conservation legislation and policy. The post involves travel to work at sites and area offices throughout the County, therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements.
