3 year Apprenticeship

We have an exciting opportunity for a hard-working, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join Environmental Services as a Vehicle Fitter Apprentice.

You will be based in the Fleet team and you will gain experience in operating a variety of equipment, driving large goods vehicles and undertaking plant and vehicle maintenance.

As a Vehicle Fitter apprentice, you will undertake the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance technician apprenticeship 1 day per week at Gateshead College. You will be supported through the apprenticeship by a College assessor and you will also receive regular mentoring in the workplace from your supervisor and team.

You do not need to have prior experience to apply for this apprenticeship but we are interested in receiving applications from candidates who can demonstrate an interest in how the Heavy Vehicle industry operates and who wishes to develop mechanical skills.

Ideally candidates will have or expect to achieve 3 GCSE’s at Grade 4 / Grade C in Maths and English or hold an equivalent and relevant qualification. If you do not have the required grades in English and Maths, you will be assessed by the training provider to determine if you have the required skills to complete this alongside the apprenticeship. Candidates without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of the apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship would appeal to candidates who prefer to work outdoors and enjoy a physically strenuous job. The apprenticeship will necessitate candidates having a good level of fitness and a high tolerance for a sometimes challenging working environment involving hands on tasks in confined, malodorous conditions.
