Sunderland City Council has an exciting opportunity for 2 individuals with a passion for civil engineering to join the Infrastructure and Commercial team. This team, based in the city development area are involved in most of the major works that you can see taking place in Sunderland and its expected that the apprentices will have the opportunity to work alongside and contribute to the works taking place.

Initially you will be placed in one of the teams, Bridges, Structures, Highways or Flooding and Coastal alongside technicians and engineers assisting in the preparation of drawings, plans and other documents relating to specific schemes taking place.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for dealing with correspondence relating to the schemes, maintaining the database, handling queries and working alongside colleagues throughout the Council.

As an Infrastructure apprentice, you will undertake the Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship and will be expected to attend New College Durham 1 day per week. The College will assign you an Apprenticeship Skills Co-ordinator (ASC) at the start of the apprenticeship and you will work with them on a one to one basis. Your ASC will also carry out workplace reviews, assessment and portfolio building with you. You will receive further support in the workplace with regular mentoring/guidance from your supervisor and team.

Ideally candidates will have or expect to achieve 5 GCSE’s grade 9 - 4 / A* - C or have a related BTEC qualification at Level 2. In addition to this, you will be required to have Maths and English Language qualifications at a minimum of Level 2 before commencement of the apprenticeship.

If you do not have the required qualifications, you will be assessed by the training provider to determine if you have the required skills, knowledge, and behaviours to complete the apprenticeship successfully.
