We are looking for two hard-working, motivated and enthusiastic people to join the Environmental Services team as Technical Support Apprentices. Regardless of your age, previous experience or qualifications (although you must be at least 16 years of age and not in full-time education), we’re welcoming applications from those that show potential, determination and a drive to succeed. In return we can give you the opportunity to start your career under the management of our experienced technical staff, whilst earning, learning and achieving a Level 3 Business Administrator qualification.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting officers from technical disciplines in a fast moving and dynamic environment. You will be friendly and professional, you will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and will be committed to a career in either Building Services or Fleet Management.

Previous experience is not necessary to apply for this role as full training will be provided. As a Technical Support Apprentice, you will undertake the Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship within your designated place of work. You will be supported through the apprenticeship by a College assessor and you will also receive regular mentoring in the workplace from your supervisor and team.

Candidates should possess good communication skills with the ability to work in a team and on your own initiative. You must either have or expect to achieve 4 GCSE’s at Grades 9 – 4 / A – C in Maths, English and ICT. Candidates who hold an equivalent and relevant qualification are also invited to apply. If you do not have the required qualification, you will be assessed by the training provider to determine if you have the required skills, knowledge, and behaviours to complete the apprenticeship successfully.

Within Fleet Management, you will support the co-ordination and management of the Council’s fleet and help support external customers of the Council’s transport facilities. You will learn from and support Fleet Officers who provide technical guidance and advice to drivers/managers on their vehicles and will liaise with suppliers and garages to ensure that breakdowns and services are resolved. You will demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills and show drive and initiative whilst helping support this business critical team. You will learn about the statutory role of the Authority by supporting the provision of advice and guidance by the Fleet Management Team to internal and external customers on transport related legislation and related matters.

Within Building Services, you will provide support to technical specialists in areas such as joinery, electrical and mechanical services to help ensure compliance with statutory regulations, legislation, in house systems, corporate standards and policies. Excellent customer service skills are essential to support the efficient and effective running of Building Services and you will develop an understanding of the technical elements and trade specialisms within the team.
