Darlington Borough Council is looking for a motivated person, who likes a challenge, has a commitment to local government and wants to help us deliver excellent services. As a Strategy and Performance Officer you will have the opportunity to get involved in a range of varied work and gain knowledge, insight and expertise, work in a challenging and fast paced environment and support the development of policies and plans at a senior level.

You will be responsible for helping develop council-wide policy and providing support to our corporate strategy and performance function which is focused on urgent areas for action, including monitoring and shaping the borough’s recovery from COVID-19.

As Strategy and Performance Officer, you will help provide high quality policy, performance and equalities advice and support to senior officers, and council members. This is a fast-paced role working across all council services and activities, in a dynamic and influential team to enable a genuine cross-departmental and multi-disciplinary approach to urgent action areas, leading to insightful and impactful interventions.

Key tasks are likely to include providing high quality policy advice and support to senior officers, monitoring wider policy developments of relevance to the council, and identifying their implications and our responses. Reporting to the Strategy and Performance Manager, you will also support the wider Strategy and Performance team in delivering a high-quality service, including collection, collation and presentation of key performance indicators and support to the Equalities function.

The successful candidate will be a great team player, communicator and relationship builder. They’ll have a “can-do” attitude, be extremely well organised and have a keen interest in local government policy. Please note this is an entry-level position which would be suitable for recent graduates of a relevant discipline or someone who has experience already and who is looking for the next step to develop their career.

- An opportunity to join the local government pension scheme
- 31 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Cycle to work scheme in partnership with Halfords (salary sacrifice)
- Additional leave purchase scheme (salary sacrifice)
