Come and join a “good” and “outstanding” Children’s and Families Service.

“Workforce development is a significant strength, and there is a very strong commitment to continuing professional development. South Tyneside appropriately prioritises recruitment and retention of high-quality professionals.” (OFSTED 2017)

Our Children and Families Service in South Tyneside are entering an exciting period in the development of the service we offer our most vulnerable families. Having been graded as Good by Ofsted we are determined to push the service to the next level and improve things further to ensure we achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

To do this we need the best professionals, who are motivated and determined to drive an already successful and effective service further. As a result of South Tyneside’s drive to improve we are increasing capacity and developing our staff team, which is already “stable, well supported and provides the right conditions for social work to flourish”.
“Senior leaders have ensured that staff development and support have been effectively prioritised, and staff morale is good. The workforce is stable, motivated and child focused.” (OFSTED 2017)

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best service for our children and young people and a working environment that allows exceptional social work practice we are further expanding our Children and Families Services by adding another social work team.

We welcome applications from qualified social workers who have worked in children and families social care for the above posts, including ASYE’s.

Our offer to ASYE’s includes allocation of a named mentor to support and model good practice in a wide range of circumstances, allowing ASYE’s to gain a wide range of experiences in varying degrees of complexity in a safe and protected way to allow social workers to develop into competent and confident practitioners.

Social Workers will have the benefit of monitored caseloads, a responsive, supported and visible management team, right to the Head of Service, all who have a sound value base of practice in a Strength Based Way that is centred around outcomes for children. We actively encourage creative practice that is built on Social Workers taking the time to develop meaningful and effective relationships with children, their families and our partners.

More experienced Social Workers benefit from opportunities to progress and focus on areas of practice that have a particular interest for them, including working alongside the management team to develop practice and share experience. The recent development of a new progression pathway allows those that are ready, to progress swiftly. A majority of our management team have progressed into their positions from that of Social Worker with South Tyneside Council, which only ratifies the view you will be supported to progress your career and want to stay with us, sharing our passion for exceptional social practice across the service, in an environment that allows you to do so.

South Tyneside are committed to developing and creating experiences and opportunity for managers to progress and enhance their management skills. Practice Managers are expected to contribute to service development as their skills, knowledge and experience of operational practice is essential to ensure focus on the issues that matter to staff and children and their families.
