An exciting opportunity has emerged to join Durham County Council’s Fostering Service. The Fostering Service is responsible for the recruitment, training and support of foster carers across the county, both mainstream foster carers and family and friends foster carers. The service has been through service wide restructure to maximise the quality of service to Children, Young People and their carers, and ensure that good outcomes for children are at the centre of all of our practice.

There is a current vacancy for a full-time and permanent Social Work Consultant within the Connected Carers Team. The focus of the Team is to provide Initial Screenings/Viabilities; Form C and SGO Assessments on prospective connected carers.

The purpose of the role is to provide a range of support and mentoring to Fostering Social Workers and to champion best practice within the service; taking the lead on all aspects of Quality Assurance within the team. The successful candidate may hold a small case load of assessments.

The Social Work Consultant will also have management functions and the successful candidate will work closely with, assist and deputise for the Team Manager of the Connected Carers Team. It is ideally suited to experienced practitioners who are keen to gain additional management experience and responsibilities.

The role is also crucial to ensuring that the service maintain strong links with all other parts of Children’s Services and external agencies, therefore would be well suited to innovative and outward thinking practitioners.

Required Qualifications: Degree in Social Work or equivalent Social Work qualification, i.e CQSW, CSS or DIP DW and current Social Work England registration. As well as the achievement of Post Qualification Award. It is desirable that the successful candidate has an NVQ Level 4 in management or equivalent or willingness to complete when in post.
