To support delivery of this Vision, we are taking forward some exciting key projects within the Housing Service and have a number of exciting new opportunities where your role could play a key part in developing and delivering housing services that will improve housing for the residents within the City.
We have recently completed the development of our 5-Year Housing Delivery and Investment Plan. This will see more affordable homes built and secure the acquisition of existing empty homes which will be brought back into use as affordable homes. This will have a positive effect on our neighbourhoods and generate improvements within all sectors of housing across the City.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent post for a Housing Officer to assist in the delivery of prevention of homelessness and rough sleeping strategy and to ensure the provision of suitable temporary accommodation for those who require it as defined within the Housing Act 1996, Part VII.

The role will include a range of technical, clerical, financial and statistical information to support the core values of the Housing Options Team.

The post holder will be part of a busy and vibrant team dealing with both internal and external customers. You will be required to have excellent interpersonal communication skills both written and verbally and have excellent literacy, numeracy and customer service skills and a general understanding of Council Procedures.
You will be responsible for processing and ensuring payments are made to the providers of temporary accommodation and storage facility. The successful applicant will also be responsible for creating and maintaining partnerships with providers of temporary accommodation to ensure that the necessary level of accommodation is available and link in with the Temporary Accommodation Officer for any issues that may arise. You will gather case information from applicants and work with both the Homelessness Reduction Officers and the Tenancy Sustainment Officer to assist with the assessment of homeless applicants when required.

You will be the first point of contact for all providers in all matters relating to the payments, invoices and recording of spread sheets relating to all payments.

You will triage Duty to Refer referrals that come into the team and also work alongside the Housing Assistant as the first point of contact into the team when required.

Applicants should a passion and have experience of working within a housing, homelessness or support related service, have a good understanding of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

You will also be required to have experience of creating partnerships with providers of temporary accommodation and have a good track record of providing and delivering payments on time, progressing effective solutions for housing, vulnerable people and homeless people particularly regarding the use of temporary accommodation.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
