Further Information
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the COAST team at Sunderland City Council where you will play a key role in helping to manage recreational pressure from new development on protected wildlife and habitats associated with the designated European Sites found at the coast.

In this interesting role, you’ll have a broad remit, which will include education of users, monitoring and enforcement. You’ll maintain an on-site presence to inform users of these protected sites, to raise awareness of their nature conservation importance and encourage responsible behaviour.

Effective public engagement is critical to the success of this role, as you’ll also need to actively work with the local community to gather evidence on user activities, effects on wildlife and the effectiveness of mitigation measures. Developing a compelling social media presence is also key, increasing public appreciation of the coastal wildlife and support for it.

We seek a candidate who combines an excellent understanding of ecological issues and a deep commitment to nature conservation with the tact, diplomacy and assertiveness to influence people’s behaviour, pursuing enforcement action when required. You will have experience of ecological survey work, habitat and access management as well as public engagement, and will have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
This is a full-time post and there will be a requirement for the post holder to work some weekends, early mornings, evenings and some bank holidays throughout the year. Whilst this is a full time position some flexibility may be possible.

You’ll also need a driving license and be able to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
