The Service

The Recovery Team is part of the Council’s Revenues and Benefits Service. The team is based in Ashington and is responsible for collection, recovery and enforcement of council tax, business rates and sundry debt.

The role

The successful candidates will work as part of a team dealing with all aspects of council tax, business rates and sundry debt collection, recovery and enforcement.

You must have a good general standard of education demonstrating literacy and numeracy; clerical/administrative experience; knowledge of the Local Government Finance Acts and associated Statutory Instruments; an awareness of best practise in service delivery; and an awareness of the General Data Protection Regulation.

You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to support the Council’s commitment to provide excellent customer service. A high degree of confidentiality is essential.

You must be a good negotiator, and be able to deal confidently with a full range of requests and remain calm and logical in sometimes difficult situations.

You must have experience in working as part of a team, as well as the ability to work on your own initiative to process high volumes of work accurately to deadlines. You should also have experience of operating computerised systems.

Experience of working in a Revenues Section in a local authority, and an IRRV Technician qualification would be desirable.
