We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about the health of people in Durham, to join our Public Health team as Public Health Advanced Practitioners.

The public health team has recently undergone a restructure to improve its alignment with emerging public health priorities across the life course, and greater integration within Durham County Council.

We are looking for a candidate with a track record of implementing public health programmes in a range of settings, and with exceptional communication skills and ability to progress public health priorities through leadership at all levels of the system.

Public Health Advanced Practitioners will play a key role in forging partnerships with and influencing all key stakeholders within their specialist area of responsibility. They will also be responsible for key elements of the Council’s public health vision and strategic plan, developing, implementing, monitoring and leading key public health programmes to reduce health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing. This will be delivered through the commissioning process and marketplace development with providers including other Local Authorities, the NHS (commissioners, providers in the acute, mental health and primary care), the third sector and independent/private sector.

Public Health Advanced Practitioner (Healthy Communities, Strategy and Assurance)

• Developing a framework for healthy settings and standards across the team
• Community asset based development including work with the intelligence team on asset maps
• Contributing to the development of ‘social movements’ for health
• Managing public health input for key commissioned services such as MECC, capacity building and mental health training
• Workplace health including the coordination of work relating to mental health in the workplace and supporting the implementation of the Better Health at Work award
• Developing a public health programme for elected member development
• Health In All Policies
• Oversight and line management of Public Health Practitioner work relating to healthy settings
• Contribute towards our health protection response
• Support the population approaches to improving oral health.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion or a related field
A relevant degree, supplemented by public health improvement knowledge, acquired through training, courses and experience.
Evidence of continuing professional development
