Further Information
Do you have a passion for working with children and young people? Are you motivated to achieve the best outcomes for children and families? Do you want an employer who will support you to have the career that is right for you?

If this is you - then Newcastle City Council is the place for you!

We are looking for staff to join our enthusiastic and dynamic Intensive Family Intervention Team (“IFIT”). IFIT works intensively with families to help prevent children and young people coming into care and to support reunification following periods of care. IFIT also has an important role supporting the work of our out-of-hours Emergency Duty Team. As a new team, this is an exciting time to join IFIT as you will have the opportunity to use your experience and skills to help us shape how we work with our young people and families.

To succeed as an Outreach Officer, you must be able to build rapport with young people and families quickly through excellent communication skills. A solution focused person, you must be able to remain calm in challenging situations and be confident working alone or as part of a team. You must have outstanding time management and organisational skills and be experienced at maintaining excellent case records. With at least three years’ experience of working with young people with complex behaviours and families in acute distress, you must bring a real commitment to make a difference to the lives of children and families.

As part of IFIT you will work with families across the city, either from our offices at Allendale Road or from our Family Intervention Hubs. You must also be able to work shifts on a fixed rolling rota covering seven days per week (from 8.00am – 10.00pm.)

We will encourage you to be creative and progress your career and working with us you will receive:
• A dedicated 5-day induction
• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
• A range of flexible working options
• A generous Flexi Scheme
• Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
• Access to home electronics and car leasing schemes

If you want to find out more about the role you can speak with our IFIT Team Manager Deborah Lowdon on 07866173376.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
