Temporary until February 2022 to cover staff secondment

The Trading Standards team is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Consumer Protection Officer to assist in maintaining and developing Sunderland as a well-regulated, compliant and safe place to live, work, visit and do business.

The successful applicant will have a positive ‘can do’ attitude’ and will be able to undertake a wide range of enforcement duties. Experience in a similar role will be advantageous and ability to work in partnership with others as a team player is expected.

The position is advertised as a fixed term contract to February 2022 to cover the secondment period of the existing post-holder. Whilst the main function of this role is to enforce all aspects of the Trading Standards remit (except weights and measures), the post holder will be expected to have significant involvement in a supportive capacity for animal health and animal welfare licensing requirements. Furthermore, in the current climate, the post holder will be heavily involved in Covid19 enforcement work as a priority during the emergency period. This is likely to involve ‘out of hours’ work during evenings and weekends (for which additional payment will usually be available).

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact the Recruiting Manager Laura Brooks, Principal Trading Standards Officer on 07799624944 or by email to laura.brooks@sunderland.gov.uk
