Further Information
Team Manager – Mental Health Team. Gateshead.

Gateshead Council is an ambitious authority, ambitious for Gateshead the place and ambitious for the people who live and work within the borough. We have made a significant investment into our Adult Social Care Service in order to further support and manage the council’s efforts in enabling residents to live thriving lives, as part of the council’s strategic ‘Thrive’ approach.

Due to this investment and reorganisation we are currently seeking to appoint to the post of Mental Health Team manager. You will be responsible for leading our established Mental Health Social Work Team, which incorporates our Core AMHP model as well as care management for adults with a functional mental illness requiring strengths-based support.

You will assist the Service Manager in all areas to provide leadership, direction and professional oversight on all issues relating to the Mental Health service within Adult Care. You will be part of a very supportive and skilled group of Team Managers across the service who provide day-to-day management and support to our frontline social work practitioners.

You will be highly motivated and have relevant knowledge and experience within Mental Health, including legislation, practice and procedures. You may already operate as a Team Manager and wish to take on a new challenge, or you may be looking to move into a management role with the necessary support, training and mentoring. You will possess a working knowledge of legislative and statutory requirements, as well as an ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with relevant social care partners, including key partners such as the NHS and Police.

You will be an experienced care manager or a practicing AMHP or previously practicing AMHP seeking to return to Mental Health. You will be a highly effective communicator, used to working within deadlines and may have experience of conducting performance analysis and team planning activities. You will be highly skilled in risk management approaches and have a comprehensive understanding of the Safeguarding and Vulnerability agenda within your own area as well as wider social care.

You must hold a Social Work qualification or equivalent i.e. MA or BA in Social Work, Dip SW CQSW or CSS. You must also have a current registration with Social Work England.

You may have experience of strategic / project planning and hold a management qualification and / or have undergone a management training programme. We strive to be a Learning Organisation, so a commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to undertake relevant training as required is essential – in return we offer a comprehensive management/leadership training programme and support and opportunities with career development within Gateshead.

If successful you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.

Interviews will be held week commencing 15.03.21.
