Gateshead Council are looking to recruit a full time Asbestos Coordinator on a permanent basis. The role is within our Building Safety team to support the Compliance Manager in the delivery of statutory obligations and regulatory undertakings with regard to asbestos management in all buildings within the Council’s portfolio. This will include maintaining up to date and validated data to ensure the Council’s asbestos data remains accurate and up to date.

The key roles of the post are included in the job profile. The role is based at the Civic Centre and you will work at a variety of locations across Gateshead. At all times the you will be expected to liaise with clients and provide a high level of customer care.

It is essential that you have knowledge of updating and monitoring performance management systems. The ability to analyse and process technical data. Be able to deliver accurate and reliable information in relation to asbestos. You will be fully conversant with the Health & Safety regulations, including CAR 2012 and the use of asbestos in construction. You will hold BOHS proficiency module P405 and have or be willing to work towards an IOSH qualification. You should have 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or grade C or equivalent.

You should have experience in the principles of asbestos management, including survey types, and removal works, Using asbestos software packages, Producing accurate and reliable information, Managing / instructing employees / contractors, applying technical knowledge to provide solutions, relevant legislation and industry guidance and using effective negotiation skills to achieve deadlines
