We are looking to appoint an additional AMHP colleague into our Emergency Duty Team on a full-time basis.

The post involves a rota for evening, overnight, weekend and bank holiday cover with EDT colleagues. Our service offers a generic out of hours social work response to all situations that present and cannot wait until the next working day. You will be AMHP qualified, practicing / non practicing, with experience of meeting adult service needs in terms of Care Act and safeguarding adults’ responsibilities. In addition to this you may have knowledge and experience of children and family’s needs out of hours. We in Gateshead pride ourselves on development opportunities for staff and we offer comprehensive support in all aspects of your continual professional development, therefore a willingness to seek and grasp opportunities is vital. You may already have some statutory experience of working with children but if not then we will enable you to gather this as an additional skill set to meet the needs of the service.

You will have experience of proactively managing risk and being involved in applying safeguarding processes. You must be able to prioritise and manage competing demands and as an AMHP you will have experience of working autonomously, seeking support where necessary. You will have a broad knowledge of legislation and national guidance relevant to your current service area, using this to uphold our statutory responsibilities whilst contributing to Gateshead’s THRIVE agenda.

We are an agile service so you will need good IT skills and although we are based in the Civic Centre in Gateshead you will appreciate that we are currently spending a lot of additional time working remotely from home. We place great emphasis on the importance of reflective supervision and whilst working within a very supportive team environment you will also have appropriate line management and senior management support to enable you to practice effectively and support the residents of Gateshead to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will be capable of working autonomously and decisively, you will have extensive contact with other agencies so you will ably demonstrate excellent communication skills. As a registered social worker, you will have a commitment to equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice across all contacts, advocating and supporting others within the local authority as required.

You will have a Social Work qualification (MA or BA in Social Work, Dip SW CQSW or equivalent) and be registered with SWE. You don’t need to have experience of out of hours work but due to the hours of work it is essential that you have a current driving licence.
If successful you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.
