The Trading Standards Service of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council enforces a diverse mix of legislation aimed at protecting consumers and legitimate traders.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably skilled individual to join the team as a Senior Trading Standards Officer. We are looking to recruit an individual with a flair for finding crime and a determination to resolve issues. As a Senior Trading Standards Officer, you will also be able to demonstrate a management ability dovetailing your own workload with supporting junior staff in achieving their best.

Essential criteria for the post includes; a diploma in Trading Standards of equivalent and substantial experience in dealing with businesses and consumers and significant experience of directing and supporting the work of other officers.

The post will undertake work aimed primarily at making the most of CACS notifications & referrals to generate work, line-managing the Tobacco & Alcohol project, and leading our activities for protecting vulnerable persons (No Cold Caller Homes and Banking Protocol work in particular).

The nature of the post will require a flexible approach to work including occasionally working outside what are regarded as normal hours. Preferably you can demonstrate recent experience in a management role within Trading Standards. Other essential qualities will include strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to deal firmly but fairly with people, and the ability to prioritise a demanding workload. Managing priorities and maintaining momentum will be key features for the successful applicants.
