We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.”

The Adults & Communities Directorate consists of three strands, Adult Social Care, Community Development, and Public Health. Our aims are to continue to provide essential and highly valued services and to build capacity to enable local communities to make lasting change, improve quality of life and prosperity. As a directorate we lead on developing a culture of co-operation and co-production, respecting and nurturing the skills and talents of local people and enabling them to fulfil their potential.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Business Support Officers to work within the River Tees Port Health Authority at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (one year fixed term contract). The team is primarily responsible for the control of imported food and feed through Teesport as well as issuing ship sanitation certificates.

The role of the team is to protect public health through the enforcement of relevant laws and by supporting importers and agents to achieve good standards of legal compliance and best practice. We are committed to providing quality services to people, who live, work in and visit the borough and supporting the development of a fair and equitable trading environment that protects the interests of consumers and businesses alike.

This multi-disciplinary role requires a committed and flexible person to contribute to delivering the teams range of functions. The successful candidates will be expected to carry out a variety of duties. These will include inputting service requests onto databases, responding to requests for advice and providing guidance and support to agents and importers and other relevant agencies.

You must have GCSE Maths and English OR an equivalent certification of achievement OR ability to apply these skills in a practical setting, OR an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent administration qualification / experience. You must be able to work effectively as part of a team and prioritise and manage personal workloads. Current experience of working in a business supporting role would also be desirable.

The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme.
