FDAC PARENTAL MENTAL HEALTH WORKER - FULL TIME (37 hours) GRADE J (SALARY £34,728- £37,890)
2-year fixed term contract DFE funding to start 1ST April 2021.
We are seeking a Parental Mental Health Worker to join our new Family Drug & Alcohol Court (FDAC) team.
The Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) is a national therapeutic problem-solving court model, which offers an alternative to standard care proceedings. FDACs provide an innovative restorative approach which aims to improve outcomes for families by supporting parents to overcome their substance misuse, mental health concerns and domestic abuse, which put their children at risk. The FDAC team partners with the family court to provide an accessible, community-based assessment and intervention service for families with complex needs.
The specialist multi-disciplinary FDAC team includes social workers, a clinical psychologist, substance misuse and mental health workers to provide intensive support, built around the family; designed to enable and empower parents to overcome their difficulties. Please see

You will provide mental health expertise to the multidisciplinary assessment of families and parents referred to the service. Rapid initial and ongoing assessment of parents; their willingness and capacity to engage in therapeutic work and work with existing treatment providers to address their substance use and develop parenting skills and capacity to live a more child centric life and ensure the safety of their children.
The post holder will contribute to the multidisciplinary formulation and implementation of an intervention plan and work with team members to mobilise and co-ordinate existing local authority & independent sector resources to meet the needs of the care plan.
Your role will require you to undertake comprehensive multi-disciplinary assessments, plan programmes to meet the needs of service users, undertake direct work with parents and children, and deliver evidenced based interventions. You will also be required to provide regular reports to Court, be a regular attendee at the Court and support your allocated families through the FDAC proceedings at the assigned family proceedings court.
Driving licence and access to own car is preferred but not essential for this role.
The Ideal Candidate
Having handled a significant caseload in a busy environment as a Mental health Worker or similar, you'll have a deep understanding of adult mental health, childhood trauma as well as the Recovery Agenda. This is an extremely varied role, so flexibility, knowledge of trauma informed practice, systemic theories, relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital, alongside proven safeguarding children experience. It is essential you have a sound knowledge of legislation relating to children and families including the Children Act and Working Together. You should have experience of delivering focussed interventions for families experiencing mental health and substance misuse difficulties. This should include a sound knowledge of using motivational interviewing techniques, cognitive behavioural therapy and other evidenced based approaches. Experience in delivering trauma informed interventions and trauma focused therapy is essential.
We are looking for workers with excellent communication skills and nationally recognised professional qualifications.
