Following a recent review of housing management and maintenance services, Gateshead Council cabinet agreed that the management of the Council’s housing stock, which is currently provided by The Gateshead Housing Company, will transfer into Gateshead Council from 1 April 2021.

The re-integration is aligned to a new vision and operating model for the delivery of housing, maintenance, and neighbourhood housing services in Gateshead.

The successful candidate will be joining the service at an extremely exciting time as Gateshead Council move forward with an ambitious new vision for housing in Gateshead. A vision which will ensure the housing needs of all local people are met, enabling them to thrive.

You will be joining the Neighbourhood Services in the role of Neighbourhood Housing Officer based in various locations throughout Gateshead and employed directly by Gateshead Council.

Neighbourhood Housing Officers work within neighbourhoods across the borough of Gateshead to proactively manage tenancies, providing early intervention and support to prevent tenancies from failing.

Our officers are a key point of contact for customers and provide a face to face service delivering a range of tenancy management activity including property condition checks, identifying and managing breaches of tenancy and estate management, reporting and tackling environmental issues to ensure neighbourhoods are clean, safe and sustainable.

With the assistance of mobile technology, officers work out of neighbourhood housing offices, Gateshead Civic Centre and remotely within the community. In addition to this, during Covid-19 officers will also temporarily work from home.

About you:

You will be a team player, although happy to work on your own initiative. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and have the ability to work with and support vulnerable customers.

You will have a positive attitude and be able to respond to the needs of a variety of customers, particularly those who are vulnerable. You will also be able to demonstrate that you can deal effectively with difficult situations using a problem-solving approach, and enhanced negotiation and communication skills.

It is essential that you can demonstrate experience of working with customers, partners and external agencies to ensure our estates are attractive places to live.

You should possess at least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), including Maths and English, or relevant demonstrable experience. You will also have knowledge of housing and social care, and good IT skills.

Work locations will vary subject to the needs of the business.
