New College Durham Academies Trust comprises of two large Academies, Consett Academy and North Durham Academy, located some six miles apart in North West Durham. North Durham Academy is seeking to appoint a Year Manager.

Grade 5 – Term Time + 1 week
£24,337 - £27,408 pa (actual salary)

The successful candidate will be expected to manage a year group. The Year Manager is responsible for student attendance, punctuality, standards of uniform and day-to-day pastoral issues. You will promote the culture and vision of the academy by being a positive role model to all students, upholding a vision of inclusion and learning. Additionally, the Year Manager is the first point of contact for parents and carers of children within their year group offering support, care and guidance as required.

On rare occasions, Year Managers may be required to supervise whole classes during the absence of teachers, ensuring students are on task, good order is maintained and that the content of the lesson provided by the class teacher, is delivered. The role also involves leading academy assemblies with their year group and playing a crucial role in the day to day smooth running of the academy.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate at least 2 years’ previous experience of working with young people. You must also have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively under pressure and have essential leadership qualities that will inspire our students to achieve.

Ideally, although not essential – you will also have experience of working successfully with secondary age children as either a mentor, teaching assistant, advisor or other support worker. As well as excellent interpersonal skills, you must have resilience and empathy and be able to work effectively under pressure.
