IT Services, within the Resources and Digital Directorate operates at the very core of the Council's operations, working with services and key stakeholders to empower employees to deliver the Council priorities through the use of technology.
We have made a significant investment into the IT Strategic Action Plan in order to further support the council’s ambitions, with the key goals of Service, Value, Security and Agility.
We’re looking for an ambitious and dedicated IT professional to lead the development, delivery and continual improvement of IT network infrastructure technologies in support of the Councils IT Strategic Action Plan with the key goals of Service, Value, Security and Agility. Our aim is to reduce complexity and ensure an effective and secure infrastructure exists to support the development of services and technology.
You will play a critical part in shaping the overarching network technology strategy in order to support the Council to achieve its ambitions.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic leader with the ability to motivate and develop high performing teams. Leading the way through maintaining expert knowledge of trends and emerging technologies, you’ll be equipped with a strategic vision for innovation and change, be passionate about all things IT with the drive and ambition to develop and maintain high technical standards and operating practises. You will be constantly challenged to drive continuous improvement and deliver the highest quality and most technically efficient connectivity solutions whilst taking ownership of the delivery of services to agreed levels of performance.
As an expert communicator, you’ll excel at building relationships with both internal employees and colleagues, external clients, partners and suppliers alike, in addition to key business stakeholders.
Having spent time in a similar position within an IT Services environment, you will be highly motivated and have the relevant knowledge and experience required to develop and scale our complex networks, taking a lead role in the strategic network and voice project based work, aligned to the overall Strategic Action Plan for IT. You’ll have significant experience of leading a network infrastructure team across a wide range of large scale and business critical technologies including:
• Multi-site network systems and security technologies
• Software defined networking and affiliated technologies to support modern platform stacks such as Cisco ACI, SD Access and VMware.
• Network automation infrastructure and solutions at scale using tools such as Python and Ansible
• Network Management solutions such as Solarwinds , SNMPc , Cisco DNA Centre
• Telephony platforms and, ideally, modern contact centre technologies
• Microsoft Modern Workplace platforms including MS365
You'll maintain a high level of security by leading on the installation, upgrading and patching of all supported network devices within the Council's infrastructure.
You’ll be resilient and used to dealing with changing priorities, whilst maintaining the ability to effectively manage a high number of complex tasks, often within tight timeframes.
The right person will be highly technical and analytical, possessing over 5 years of network management experience with the following
• Design install and support of business-critical network switching, routing, VRFs and VLANs.
• Design, install and support of business-critical WLAN networks
• Experience of OSPF, Spanning-Tree, VRFs, QOS, Linux\Python (scripting\automation)
• Experience of Virtualisation technologies such as GRE, VXVlan, IPSEC VPN’s
• Experience of Voice and Contact Centre technologies such as SIP, Voice Call routing
