Durham County Council is looking to appoint to the new role of Coroner Service Manager.

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Coroner and the Legal & Democratic Services Practice Manager to lead, co-ordinate and develop the work of the Coroner Officers and Coroner Support Officers.

The primary purpose of the role will be to maintain an effective, efficient service through the day to day management of the team. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and managerial skills, effective communication and listening skills, demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills and a desire to deliver an exceptional service to the residents of County Durham & Darlington.

The role will include the design and implementation of an induction programme with supporting documentation, supporting the continuing professional development and training of the team and undertaking performance management to identify areas of development and required support.

Change management and business development are also key aspects of this role. It will be the post holder’s responsibility to liaise on a regular basis with the Senior Coroner to deliver their requirements for the service as well as looking for opportunities to develop and continuously improve the service. The post holder will then lead on implementing change ensuring all members of the team are involved in the process and unified in the service vision.

An understanding of the work of the Coroner Service is desirable but not essential.
