Salary amounts quoted are from the 1 September to 31 August and therefore if you commence employment part way through the academic year, they are subject to an equated salary adjustment.

Grade G plus SSA, 37 hours per week, term time only.

An opportunity has arisen within the Low Incidence Needs Team (LINT), Gateshead Council, for a Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant (Visually Impaired).

LINT works across the 0-25 age range within both mainstream and special school settings. You will be expected to work flexibly where required across Gateshead.

We are looking for applicants who meet the higher-level teaching assistant standards or hold an equivalent specialist qualification. You will be required to have or be willing to work towards the Grade 1 Braille qualification and achieve Grade 2 (contracted) within 2 years.

You must have knowledge of the impact of vision loss upon learning and development, a good understanding of child development, learning processes and barriers to learning. You should have worked with National/Early Years curriculum, programmes and strategies.

Experience of working with children/young people with vision impairment is essential, along with the use of specialist resources and technologies relevant to the post. You will also be experienced in the effective use of ICT to maintain records and to support learning.
