Further Information
In the North East of England and part of the wider Tees Valley region, Darlington is a market town that marries a rich industrial heritage with a modern, vibrant and growing economy. Benefitting from superb transport connectivity, Darlington is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live and work, a proud and innovative town.

Our vision as a Council is to make Darlington a place where people want to live and businesses want to locate, where the economy continues to grow, where people are happy and proud of the borough and where everybody has the opportunity to maximise their potential. Like all Local Authorities, we are not without challenges, but we have developed innovative solutions, created new partnerships and delivered sustainable services. We have an excellent team, a progressive growth agenda, with a very exciting forward programme.

Following the promotion of the existing post holder, we have a fantastic opportunity to appoint an innovative and forward-thinking leader to join our team and drive our exciting agenda forward.

You will be a member of the Council’s Chief Officers’ Board (COB), a strategic group of Assistant Directors which enables integrated working between service areas and cross service contribution to corporate issues.

You will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to a broad range of assessment and in-house provider services, as a key member of the People Group leadership team.

You will be joining a team focussed on ensuring that we continue to deliver our statutory duties and working with people to achieve and sustain good outcomes. Strength based and relational practice approaches are central to our culture and our commitment to work with our most vulnerable adults to enable them to maximise their independence and to feel safe and valued.

Our transformation programme is at a mature stage and we have already made great progress in demonstrating that good outcomes can cost less. Our approach is progressive and embraces a healthy mix of innovation and strong management support, which is underpinned by a positive culture and a commitment to develop our workforce. You will work across the health and social care system to develop a strong partnership model that is effective in improving outcomes.

We are looking for a strategic thinker, with significant management experience, who can demonstrate the ability and personal qualities that are needed to lead the service forward.
