Further Information
Located at the heart of Weardale, an area of outstanding natural beauty, Wolsingham School is just a short drive west of Durham. Based on our four pillars of academic excellence, a rich extracurricular life, character and citizenship, and exceptional pastoral care, we are committed to helping every child fulfil their true potential.

The school has grown and we are now seeking to appoint an additional full-time teacher to teach History to GCSE and English at Key Stage 3. We seek an excellent practitioner who is passionate about making students think and is committed to bringing out the best in our students. An additional allowance is available to candidates whose experience shows they can successfully take on further responsibility, either in English or across the school in the academic, pastoral or ‘personal development’ areas.

We are very proud of both these Faculties. Over 70% of our students typically pass English Language and Literature. History is an extremely popular subject at GCSE and returns consistently positive progress scores. Literature and reading are at the heart of school life and we offer an annual Readathon, the BBC ‘500 words’ short story competition, the Peter Hetherington Poetry Contest and a trip to Harry Potter World. Our History Faculty organises our annual Remembrance Service for the whole community and runs our Classics Club.

Our school is committed to developing and supporting its students and staff. Students are wellbehaved and their relationships with staff are excellent. We run 10 15 extracurricular clubs each term and a huge range of educational visits throughout the year. In 2018, Ofsted warmly confirmed our ‘Good’ rating saying, “Pupils are very happy at school and wear their uniform with pride.” Our staff and Leadership Team are also extremely supportive and we provide excellent professional development opportunities.

We are a member of the Advance Learning Partnership, an Equal Opportunities Employer, and we welcome applications regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity or religion. Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met. Our school is also committed to the protection and safety of its students; any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and appropriate references.

The Head Teacher, Mr Jonathan Ferstenberg, and the Faculty Leads for English, Mrs Sophie Harwood, and History, Mr Mike Cass, would be very happy to answer any questions you have or to meet with you virtually. To arrange this or to ask any other questions, please contact Miss Laura Percival, our Academic Logistics Officer, on 01388 527302, or email info@wolsinghamschool.net. Applications may be downloaded from our website, which includes a video and virtual tour of our school as well as other helpful information.

We look forward to hearing from you.
