We are currently looking to recruit a full time Fire Risk Assessor either permanently or on a fixed term 3-month contract. The post holder will work as part of the Council's Corporate Health and Safety service.
The post holders will be required to work from home, with a future blend of office-based work in the Civic Centre, Sunderland. The post will involve travel to and from various sites throughout the City.
The Council has an extensive property portfolio encompassing a wide variety and complexity of buildings including offices, schools, residential care homes and an Outdoor Education and Training Centre based in Cumbria. The successful candidate will be involved in carrying out fire risk and DSEAR assessments and producing comprehensive reports for these buildings as part of a prioritised fire risk assessment programme. The successful candidate will also be expected to coach and mentor other members of the health and safety team to build their fire risk assessment knowledge and contribute to the Council's fire safety management strategy.
The successful candidate should have a proven and previous experience in conducting fire risk assessments across a wide variety of buildings, ideally encompassing higher risk buildings. You should hold a recognisable and professional qualification in fire safety management and fire risk assessment from creditable providers such as the Fire Protection Association, Fire Industry Association or NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management or appropriate alternative.
You will have knowledge of current fire safety legislation, technical standards and best practice, an understanding of active and passive fire protection systems, delivering fire safety training to a broad range of delegates, communicating effectively at all levels as well as ability to adjust communication to suit a wide range of people, including those with no previous fire safety knowledge, be able to meet deadlines and have good IT skills.
It is desirable that you have relevant fire safety experience within the Fire and Rescue Service or within a commercial organisation/Building Surveying/Building Control, etc.
